"Dolphin Pride Student of the Year"
Im so proud of Jack, he was selected by all his classmates. I knew it might be a real struggle getting him to school Monday morning. He had a really rough night, lots of stomach pain. He was curled up on the couch in pain, I just ran pedialyte slowly thru his tube because he didnt want to be fed.
So morning comes and he looked awful. He begged to stay home, he was pale and weak. But I knew he had this award coming and didnt want him to miss the assembly. I told him I wasnt going to be home so he had to go to school. He cried as I got him dressed, I felt so bad. BUT we made it! But you can see he looked as white as a ghost, poor kiddo.
After a few photos, I took him home right after the assembly. Logan will be a 6th grader this fall! His last year of Elementary School.
OFF TOPIC...BUT do you NOTICE the foot turning in?
The physiatrist from Seattle Childrens told me in 2009 that it was a hip problem and there was nothing we could do about it besides strengthening his trunk muscles with intense therapy. His hip xrays are completely normal. She said it was from his lowtone, weak trunk and hypermobility causing it and that it was a real tough issue to treat. So I guess no treatable solution, it just worries me. He falls downstairs and trips more easily, now Im seeing the right turn in some too...sigh.
(AGAIN, the hip!)
Jacks WONDERFUL teacher Ms. Smith. AND we just found out we'll be having her again for 3rd grade in the fall! They are looping this year so she'll be teaching 3rd grade, Im so glad. She was so great with him and so understanding and caring.
Logan was lucky enough to have Ms. Smith for his 1st and 2nd grade! So we'll have 4 years with her at Des Moines Elementary. These are a couple of his buddies. Logan has made some really good friends since we moved here.
The LAST week of school activities...
Can you believe we're finally out?! I feel like our school district goes later and later each year. Actually theyre changing this, we will be starting before labor day this fall. These were taken on Field day. The kids participate in activities all day. They then get to earn "gummy bears" once they completed a activity. NOT that Jack would appreciate the gummy bear part!
Jack was quick to show me what he's been working on with his OT/PT. He's really made a lot of progress on the play equipment this year, he can even do the fireman pole now!
Actually when I got to field day (was going to help) I noticed Jack sitting by himself, he looked so sad sitting there. Apparently they had assigned "buddies" but his partner ran off with another boy. He was nearly in tears sitting there.
BUT NO worries, I soon tracked down the 2 boys and we made it into a group of 3, so all is good again. I understand Jack needs to learn to speak up better in social situations instead of giving up.
AS it turned out Jack wasnt feeling so hot anyway and really could only do 2 activities and his legs gave out. Truly this is how he looks, his facial muscles and everything just gives out. Leaves me wondering if this is the reason that other little boy chose someone else? I mean Im sure these kids know Jack isnt as fast...but maybe not, maybe it just worked out that way. Its always hard to see your child left out whether they have physical limitations or not.
This was Logan's "little buddy"
The older kids were assigned Kindy students to take to all the stations. He was too cute!
This was another fun day the boys got to do their last week of school. "Beach Day" is always a favorite! The advantage of living across the street from the beach, all the classes walk down to the beach to look at all the sea creatures. Their school has a pretty nice view of the sound. I chaperoned for Jacks class, they were a crazy bunch :)
We also had the end of year BBQ. Jaheel is one of Jacks best buddies! If youve been here long, youve seen pics of him since Kindy.
Theres also another boy in the family!
AND these 2 will be driving to school together next year!
YAY, I will only have 1 school to drive back and forth to! Much better than the 3 schools and 3 different start and end bell times like these last 2 years, ugh. Now we just need to get Senna's drivers license over the summer and we're good to go! Im really hoping they will have a better relationship once they start driving together each morning. Its been a love-hate relationship for a few years, but I know as they get older they will find things in common and hopefully have a strong bond as adults--ONE CAN HOPE anyway!

Heidi:
You are such a strong, caring, giving, warm wonderful "Mommy." Its so cool you can spend so much time with your "kiddies."
I am praying always for Jack and hope that all his issues are minor and he will continue to grow and get "cuter" if thats possible. He is always in my thoughts. Love looking at his blog, you re so creative. Can't believe the kids are growing up so quickly.
See you Soon.
Love, Granny
I'm glad Jack got to get his special award...even if he'd have rather been in bed!
All of your kids are so cute!
We've almost been on summer break for a month now, funny how school year timings can be so different!
Hi Heidi! I work at a physical therapy clinic and wanted to offer my 2 cents about Jack's hip. I'm still in school to become a physical therapist so take this information as you will, but if the scans came back clear there would be no reason to assume his hip is the problem. To me the turning in looks more like his body compensating his low tone and weakness in that area. If he doesn't already receive physical therapy I really feel like this would easily help Jack, especially if it's starting to interfere with his coordination! A PT could work on strengthening and just make him aware it's happening (a lot of kids don't even realize they are doing it, they have more exciting things to do than stare at their feet!) Of course, it would be kind of a trade off for a kid with mito -- physical therapy can be demanding and energy depleating for a kid who already doesn't have a whole lot of energy to spare. It is definitely something to consider though if you're worried about it, as I feel it's completely treatable and could prevent future problems with his hip and knees!
YAY for Summer! Congratulations to JACK! He truly earned that title. He is one tough kiddo. Congrats to Easton, too! And YAY for Logan for being in the 'rule-the-school' class! Also, I bet it will be so nice when Senna gets her license. A lot to look forward to. Awesome pics, btw! Have a great summer! :)
